Cornet Gareth Harrison and his Lass Laura Robson ford the Tweed.

PEEBLES Cornet Gareth Harrison admitted on Wednesday night: 'I was blown away by it all.'

Gareth was speaking in the Tontine Hotel after leading 200 riders round the marches on Beltane Night.

'It was a great night, amazing. The ride-out was superb and we had wonderful support.

'My two main highlights were going through the water and the race at the golf course, but it was just a fantastic night all round.

'And to see all the crowds and the sea of faces… and the other Principals supporting us as well.

'The night lived up to expectations and even more and I feel great… definitely a night to remember.

His Lass Laura Robson added: 'It was a brilliant night. I cannot put it into words. The crowds were brilliant, even when it started raining.

'I have ridden the marches several times, but this was completely different.

'I was nervous at the start when talking to so many people, but I was okay after that and I can"t believe it is over.'

Joint secretary Davie Turnbull said: 'The night went really well. We were delighted with the number of horses which turned out and also the weather after the rain in the morning. Yes, another successful Beltane.'

Warden of Neidpath Ian Thorburn said: 'I was thrilled to be given this honour, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. I was a bit nervous, but now I can relax.'
