PLANS to create a new bike park for children in Cardrona have been given the green light.
The Cardona Village Hall Committee submitted the proposals earlier in the year, after youngsters in the area voiced their hopes for a spot where they could ride their bikes.
And the plans were shooed through by Tweeddale Area Committee at a meeting on Monday night, with councillors claiming the village committee had set an excellent example to others with their tenacity.
Tweeddale councillor Catriona Bhatia told the Peeblesshire News: 'It is great the the (Cardrona Village Hall) committee have done so well in finding a site and raising funds. Other communities would do well to follow their lead.'
The plans include building a cycle track of small jumps and bumps just south of 47 Leeburn View, along with a three-metre high start ramp and a wooden shelter.
It has been a long time coming for the village"s youngsters, who have yet to see any play facilities developed in the area, despite the site opening more than 10 years ago.
Brian McCrow, Chairman of the Village Hall Committee, said: 'A lot of kids around here are interested in bikes thanks to Glentress, and we hope that this park will only add to this.
'Adults sometimes don"t listen to kids but we took their views on board and also involved them in the design aspect of the park.
'I"m glad that Cardrona is finally getting some of the facilities it deserves.'
