Stunt bikers roll into Innerleithen

YOUTUBE phenomenon Danny MacAskill displayed his considerable biking skills at St Ronan"s Primary School recently.

Danny, the street rider behind a YouTube video with more than 7 million hits that has taken the world by storm, was joined on the day by a four-person team of stunt bikers known as The Clan to put on a spectacular show in celebration of Bike Week.

The team of bikers gave a headline display in the school playground, wowing the audience with their impressive jumps, spins and tricks.

Following the show the pupils were given the chance to get on their bikes and try out their own skills on a specially designed obstacle course.

For those who had brought their own bikes along, a bike doctor offered safety and performance checks and provided a report card on the condition of their bikes.

Pupils were also shown how to complete their own 'M" check to allow them to test various parts of their bikes themselves, including brakes, chains and gears.

Cycling Scotland chief executive Ian Aitken said: 'The Clan team is a fabulous way of presenting cycling to kids as something that"s relevant, cool and fun.

'I think this is a brilliant way of encouraging kids to not only cycle to school, but to get cycling in their leisure time, too.

'This will address both school run congestion and help drive down obesity rates amongst the younger generation.'

Danny MacAskill said: 'Cycling is a great form of exercise and there are so many benefits both for your health and socially.

'I decided to get involved in Bike Week as I am keen to make sure that people of all ages are aware that cycling is such an easy way to keep fit and have fun.

'I don"t think enough people saddle up, and with the weather improving, it"s a great time to get on your bike and explore your area.'
