POLICE have launched an investigation after vandals churned up a practice green at West Linton Golf Club.
The incident happened at the Medwyn Road course some time between 9.30pm on Sunday, July 26 and 7am on Monday, July 27.
This is the second such incident to have occurred at the club - the course was first targeted by vandals in November last year. West Linton Golf Club was formed in 1890 by local schoolmaster Robert Millar as a nine-hole course.
When additional land became available in 1972 it was extended to 18 holes. It is part of the James Braid golf trail because of the development advice given to the club by the famous course architect.
The club boasts more than 700 members.
Club secretary John Johnson said: "It's annoying to think of the idiot who did this. The practice green is near the road so it's just a case of driving on and back off it.
"The damage is repairable but a real unnecessary pain, never mind unsightly."
A spokesman for Lothian and Borders Police said: "The damage has been caused by someone driving over the turf in the area and ripping it up.
"We are appealling for anyone who witnessed the incident to contact us with information. They can either call police at Peebles on 01721 720637 or Crimestoppers in confidence and complete anonymity on 0800 555 111."
