Margaret with some of her unexpected gifts
A PEEBLES pensioner has been left in the dark after once again receiving an unexpected Christmas gift from her real-life secret Santa.
Margaret Skelly, of Provost Walker Court, has been the unwitting recipient of presents from a mystery admirer for the past two years.
In 2008, only days before Christmas, the 70-year old found a £30 gift voucher for local butchers, Forsyth's, had been posted through her letterbox.
This she put down to either mistaken identity or her own good fortune.
But this year, once again, only days before December 25, she opened her door to go to the shops and found a hefty cardboard box left on her front doorstep.
Simply addressed to M Skelly, she opened it to find a bizarre bounty of gifts such as a white cotton bath towel, homemade marmalade, bath salts, cold medicine, two vases, half of a Stilton cheese and a dish for her dentures.
The widower has asked around all her neighbours and friends and they've been left as perplexed as her to the identity of her festive friend.
Margaret said: "I've asked all round and no-one knows who it could be. This year the box of stuff was so heavy I had to drag it into my flat, and I live on the first floor so I'm guessing it must be a man who delivered it.
"I really can't figure it out. My friends keep saying that I must have done something special for someone but apart from giving to the odd charity I haven't really done anything. It's weird that there's not even a card or a note.
"Don't get me wrong I'm very appreciative of the gifts but I'm getting a little freaked out by it now."
