The biggest secret in Innerleithen is finally out.

The names of the 2010 St. Ronan's Games Week officials were announced at the traditional ceremony in the town's Memorial Hall last Friday Night.

Standard Bearer elect was announced as 22-year-old Jason Card, along with his lass elect, Beth Hardie.

Twenty two-year-old Jason, a machine operator with Glendinning Groundworks, has lived in Innerleithen all his life, attending St. Ronan's primary and then Peebles High School.

After receiving his sash from Games Committee Chairman Alan Patterson, Jason said: "Mr Chairman, on accepting the post of Standard Bearer Elect, I would like to thank the Committee for choosing me to represent the Burgh of Innerleithen.

"It shall be my earnest endeavour to carry out the duties of the office to the satisfaction of my fellow townspeople.

"On behalf of my Lass and myself, I thank you, Mr Chairman, for your kind remarks and you Ladies and Gentlemen for the reception accorded to me this evening."

And nursing student Beth told the Peeblesshire News: "I'm really looking forward to the Games week itself, but also to representing Innerleithen at all the other Border festivals. I feel incredibly honoured."

Also introduced on the night was Lady Busser Kirsty Meikle, a fifth year pupil at Peebles High School with a strong family link to games week.

Kirsty's grandad was Dux Boy in 1941, as was her dad in 1974 and both her aunts were Dux Girls in 1972 and 1979 and in 1984 her father was Standard Bearer and her Mum was his Lass.

Kirsty, who is in charge of bussin' the Crozier and staves during the Cleikum ceremonies, said: "I can't wait for the ceremony itself - although I think I might have to practice my knot tying skills before then."

Murray Charters was announced as this year's Principal Guest. Originally from Kelso, Murray moved to Innerleithen in 1991, and has been actively involved in the town's community ever since. Now a drummer in the St. Ronan's Silver Band, his appointment is particularly fitting in the year of the band's 200th anniversary.

The evening was rounded off by a procession taking Standard Bearer Elect and his Lass from Factory Lane, along the High Street to Hall Street before returning to the Memorial Hall for the Standard Bearer's Reel.

This year's Games Week takes place from July 8-17.
