A podcast is a pre-recorded file that can be downloaded from the internet form anywhere in the world and listened to again and again, and this year the Beltane Committee have decided to record one explaining all things Beltane.

The idea was dreamed up by the Committee's Vice Chairman Keith Brunton, who hopes the technology will bring the festival to a wider audience.

"I listen to podcasts a lot, and I thought it would be a great way to reach a lot of people and let them know what the Beltane is all about. It can be downloaded from anywhere in the world, so anyone with an interest, as well as local people, will be able to find out about the festival for free."

Already available in Apple Mac's online iTunes store, the podcast outlines the history of the festival, the calendar of events for the week and introduces all this year's principals - it even gives a sneak peek into what goes on behind the scenes during some of the main events.

Background music is taken from the Beltane Centenary CD and also features the first verse of the famous festival song.

And despite the relatively simple nature of the format, the 35 minute recording took Keith an incredible 12 hours to produce, he explains: "I had no idea how to go about producing a podcast, so I had to research it on the internet before I started. It's safe to say I've listened to it far too many times now and I'm sick of the sound of my own voice!"

The podcast is available free on iTunes now and can also be downloaded for free from the Beltane website as of this weekend. Anyone without internet access can pick up a CD of the recording from the Festival Coffee Morning on June 5 for 50 pence.
