WEST Linton Primary School finally learned where its new home will be this week.
After much deliberation the school will be built to the South of the identified site with the playing field retained to the North.
An alternative proposal to place the school further North was scrapped.
The decision came after a public exhibition in the existing school earlier this year attracted more than 150 people to view the proposals and submit their feedback, which was then passed on to the design team at Scottish Borders Council. Pupils, parents and staff were all given the chance to have an input into the school's location.
Chris Virtue, Project Manager, said: "This key decision now moves the project to the next stage with preparation of drawings for full planning consent. It is hoped that the plans can be developed to propose a school that will be at the centre of the community.
"It will offer a village hub, a valuable community facility and an example of environmental sustainability."
Councillor George Turnbull, SBC's Executive Member for Education, added: "I am delighted that this option has the large majority of community support.
"It is vital that the views of the staff, parents, pupils and the local community are taken on board to ensure the new school will provide the best learning experiences for the children and a valuable facility for the community.
"I am very much looking forward to seeing the project move on to the next stage and I am sure the community of West Linton can't wait to see more detailed plans of their new school."

So why have SBC decided to progress with the more expensive option? At the public exhibition, this option was not the coucils preferred options due to the need to purchase additional land and also because the pick up and drop off area is in a cul-desac! Sounds like accidents waiting to happen.........
