FRESH calls have been made to upgrade the Leadburn junction after another accident at the notorious traffic blackspot.
A silver Landrover Discovery was travelling north on the A702 Penicuik road at around 11.30am yesterday (Thursday) when it rolled and smashed through a fence before coming to a stop on its side in a field.
Two ambulances attended the scene and the road northbound was closed for several hours. The condition of the occupants was unknown at the time of going to press.
Local landowner Tom Flynn came upon the crash and reiterated the need for upgrading work on the infamous stretch of road.
"It's just ridiculous - how many crashes must there be before something is done?
"There are actually plans submitted to Midlothian Council to build houses at the exact spot where the car left the road. If they had been built that crash would have left the owners with a vehicle or in their garden, or even worse, smashing through their home."

The A702 doesn't get within 3 miles of Leadburn so yet again the Peeblesshire has got the story wrong.

Could it be that it was actually the A701 not the A702?

I Live in Leadburn and it is an absolute disgrace, we need a roundabout. How many more people are going to die, the council had the funding in place so it should be going ahead. This is peoples lifes we are talking about, i go through the junction everyday with three young children in the car and it is a gamble, the speed cars go through it, it is not good enough just to upgrade it. WE NEED A ROUNDABOUT

The local paper reported that this crash was half a mile away from the junction, on the A701.

You obviously don't get it!! If there was a
roundabout, people would slow down
and not be doing the speed, its a bad bit
of road from junction to Penicuik and
as a resident there are crashes & road
closures all the time, due to the speed
that cars go at from Penicuik to
Peebles, the police should be doing
speed checks of what cars are doing
