PEEBLEANS turned out in their droves last Saturday to witness the coronation of their Beltane Queen.
As the clock struck 10am, Alana Craigmile took to her throne on the steps of the Old Parish Church.
Hundreds gathered to witness both the historic tradition and colourful pageantry as the children of the town had their day.
Minutes earlier Crowning Lady, Catherine Hamilton, arrived looking resplendent in a duck egg blue hat and skirt-suit.
She was then led to her place before 12-year old Priorsford pupil, Alana, disembarked from her horsedrawn carriage.
The crowd cheered and then the moment all had been waiting for began,
Alana kneeled before her subjects and Crowning Lady Catherine placed the honorific crown upon her head.
Loud applause rang out from the enthusiastic crowd as Beltane Queen 2010, Alana Craigmile, excitedly beamed from her throne.
However, Beltane spirit wasn't just apparent along the High Street as messages of goodwill were read out from as far away as Australia, Zimbabwe, Canada, Spain and even the Indian Ocean!
Queen Alana then departed from her throne, followed by the Crowning Lady and the rest of her court.
Speaking afterwards Queen Alana told the Peeblesshire News: "I never thought that I'd be picked to be Queen and I've had a brilliant day so far. It's been so much better than I expected, the best bit has definitely been riding in my carriage. I'd like to thank everyone for turning out."
This was also echoed by Crowning Lady Catherine Hamilton who said: "I enjoyed the installation very much and it was a fantastic turnout. It's a great day for the children and I'm enjoying it immensely."
