A FERAL tomcat has been terrorising Walkerburn, attacking several domestic pets.
Homeowners have notified the Cat Protection League about the attacks by the manic moggy which has resulted in painful and distressing injuries to their pet cats - and for the owners the expense of weeks of veterinary treatment.
Five separate incidents have been reported with one local cat being savaged twice.
In instances of wild cat attacks the Cat Protection League can trap and move them to another area, and if necassry neuter them.
Similarly, if it is a pet cat that may have turned feral, they can talk to the owner.
Neutering a pet may seem cruel to some, but neutered males have a life expectancy twice that of unneutered ones and are less susceptible to various diseases and health problems.
A spokeswoman for the Cat Protection League said: "This cat may indeed be feral but it also may just be a new cat that has entered into the area and is signalling its arrival through aggression, it may also be a stray.
"If the problem persists then we would likely trap it before bringing it to a vet and scanning it for a microchip. If no owner was located then we would look to relocate it."
