A PEEBLESSHIRE pipe band are to make history by appearing at the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo later this month.
St Ronan's Silver Band, which this year celebrates its 200th Anniversary, will play as the pre-show entertainment at the world-famous event on Friday August 20.
The Innerleithen outfit's dreams came through after Scottish Borders Council Convenor Alastair Hutton, who also serves as the Tattoo's narrator, put a good word in for them.
Band secretary Keith Belleville said: "The band is delighted to have been given this opportunity to perform at one of the world's favourite festivals of music.
"Special thanks to Alastair for lining it up. Everyone's reaally looking forward to it and it should be amazing.
"Recently we've all had a few weeks off practising but we'll be back at it next week to put the finishing touches on our set.
"We have organised a series of special events to mark the band's bicentenary this year and this is sure to be one of the highlights."
On average, just over 217,000 people see the Tattoo live on the castle esplanade each year, and worldwide, a further 100 million people will see the band"s once in a lifetime performance on television.
The band has prepared a short programme of music which will include On St Ronan's On as well as well-known music to entertain the Tattoo crowds as they take their seats.
Captain Alex Knox will conduct the band on the Esplanade.
