St Ronan’s Primary pupils have welcomed a new headteacher to the school but they won’t have to do much swotting up on him.
Keith Belleville has offically taken up the top post at the 250-pupil school after stepping in as acting headteacher last year.
An Innerleithen native, Keith was originally drafted into the role of acting head after education bosses pulled his predecessor, Chris McKeesick, in June 2009 following months of unrest at the school.
Since his arrival he has overseen a dramatic improvement at the school becoming local parents number one choice for the job in the process.
Keith, who formerly worked as depute headteacher of Langlee Primary in Galashiels, has a keen interest in local affairs and is also secretary of Innerleithen Silver Band - he was also Standard Bearer in 1993.
He said: “I am delighted to have been appointed headteacher at St Ronan’s and look forward to building upon the good work that we’ve done at the school over the past year.”
Innerleithen Community Council chair Ross McGinn said: “I’d like to congratulate Keith on his appointment. The community is delighted that the school has been turned around, even just from looking at the newsletters it’s apparent the school is more upbeat and vibrant. He’s definitely the best man for the job.”
