PEEBLES Cornet Finlay Barber has been sacked following allegations made in his private life.
The Peebles March Riding and Beltane Queen Festival Committee made the announcement in a statement released to the Peeblesshire News this week.
It is believed to be the first time in the event's history a Cornet has been forced to relinquish his role.
Last year, Barber appeared in court in Perth accused of the abduction and rape of a teenage girl at T in the Park - the country's biggest music festival.
He made no plea or declaration when he appeared on petition in connection with the charges and his case was continued for further examination.
In a statement from the Peebles March Riding and Beltane Queen Festival Committee released to the Peeblesshire News yesterday (Thursday), a spokesman said: "It is with regret that after careful consideration and full discussion within the committee, Peebles March Riding and Beltane Queen Festival Committee have taken the decision to withdraw the office of Cornet from 2010 Peebles Cornet, Mr Finlay Barber.
"It was necessary for the committee to take this step in order that preparations can be made for Beltane 2011.
"In addition, it was important that prospective principals for 2011 were aware of the situation and possible changes to Ceremonial Procedures for Beltane 2011."
Barber was installed as Cornet during the Beltane Festival Week - a week long series of events to celebrate the history of the town - in June.
And he was expected to represent the town at a number of festivals across the Borders.
However, following his court appearance, Barber agreed to take no further part in any of the Border festivals last year.
