Three peaks in three days
A CAR crash survivor has thrown away her crutches ahead of an attempt to conquer the highest peaks in Scotland, England and Wales.
Cleo Binns from Innerleithen, who spent almost three months recovering from a shattered pelvis plans to climb Snowdon, Scafell Pike and Ben Nevis in just three days starting on August 11.
The mum-of-two sustained her injuries in a car crash on the A72 in January, when black ice caused the road surface to freeze.
Lying in her hospital bed the 38-year-old realised her dream of completing the Three Peaks challenge in just 24 hours lay in ruins.
But she refused to quit as any money raised will go towards funding her choir Inchorus' trip to New York in September to take part in a variety of commemorative events paying tribute to the men and women killed in the 9/11 disaster.
She said: "I resigned myself to the fact that my original plan was scuppered but lying in a hospital bed, dreaming of just walking to the window to look out, never mind standing on the summit of one of my favourite Lake District peaks made me determined to get fit as quickly as possible and attempt the challenge in three days rather than 24 hours."
However Cleo, who will be joined by her brother, Dan, for the 10,000 foot climb isn't worried about whether her pelvis can stand the gruelling slog but whether her car can.
She said: "We'll have to cover over 1000 miles between the peaks in my tiny Micra, I'm a bit worried whether it'll be up to it. It's all for a great cause though and hopefully people will help out by donating."
