SENTIMENTAL trinkets left on the grave of a Peebles war hero have been returned.
Small glass hearts left at the burial place of Alec Lucas by his daughter Cara were put back after the theft was highlighted by the Peeblesshire News.
A Royal Marine's medallion which had also been swiped from the graveside in Neidpath Cemetery has also been replaced.
Alec's father, Adrian, said: "I hope it was just kids who did not realise what they had done but it restores your faith in humanity that they were put back.
"Cara left little glass hearts on her father's grave and the medallion was left by a fellow Royal Marine Assault Engineer last year - they must have travelled a long way to bring it to Alec's grave."
Alec was killed in action on November 24, 2009, following an explosion while on patrol in Helmand province in Afghanistan.
He is remembered in Peebles every year with a football tournament in his honour as he was a keen player.
A Trust set up in his memory has already raised over £50,000 for local football causes and the Royal Marines Benevolent Trust.
