POLICE have appealed for witnesses after a motorcyclist was seriously hurt in an accident on the A72.
The injured biker was taken to Borders General Hospital with an open fracture to his right leg on Monday, October 3 shortly before 10am.
This accident occurred after the motorcyclist, who was travelling westward, collided with a black Vauxhall Astra, travelling east, on the first right-hand bend leaving Innerleithen.
The road was closed for almost two hours while police carried out a full accident investigation. Anyone with information has been asked to contact police.
At present Lothian and Borders Police are carrying out an in-depth analysis of the A72 between Galashiels and Peebles with special attention given to all black spots.
This follows the death of motorcyclist David Arnott, 49, of Errol near Perth, who was involved in a collision with a Peugeot 206 at Dirtpot Corner, near Cardrona, on Saturday, August 27.
The long-awaited A72 review was announced by the region's top cop Chief Constable, David Strang, at the most recent meeting of the Lothian and Borders Police Board in Dalkeith.
A police spokesman said: "This review has already begun and once finished should offer clear analysis of the number and locations of accidents on this stretch of road."

Report commentThe A72 didn't claim another life - careless driving did.

Report commentIf you read carefully you'll see that no life was actually claimed, the victim was 'only' (thst's still serious) injured. And you can't blame careless driving without knowing any of the details. There could have been many other causes.

Report commentWhy do people jump on the band wagon of always blaming the road. If drivers drove their vehicles to the conditions there would be an automatic reduction in accidents. It has very little to do with the road layout, e.g if a car is going round a corner at 50mph and skids off the road, it has probably been going too fast. It's not rocket science.

Report commentYes, but there are clearly potential contributory factors, such as road surface, prevailing weather conditions, light and glare (particularly on an east / west road), width of road, items in the verge, other traffic, vehicle failure, potholes, etc etc etc. It is rarely clear-cut, yet people seem to have a black and white view, and make rash assumptions. So who is it you're blaming then? Car or Bike?
