A motorist managed to free himself from his car after it hit black ice and overturned in the early hours of Thursday morning.
Emergency services rushed to the notorious blackspot on the A701 at 4.30am after reports that a man was thought to be trapped in his car.
Fortunately he had been able to get out of the vehicle, which had left the road and overturned, before fire and ambulance crews arrived.
The man was checked over by paramedics at the scene but did not need to go to hospital.
A spokesperson for Lothian and Borders Fire and Rescue Service said: "It was a one vehicle accident, a car hit black ice then hit the banking and the vehicle overturned.
"The person wasn't trapped when we arrived so crews proceeded to make the scene and car safe."
