LOCALS will have their say on any reduction in hours at Peebles Police Station.
The matter was agreed at the recent meeting of the Lothian and Borders Police Board in Haddington on Monday.
Following a proposal from local councillor Gavin Logan, Chief Constable David Strang agreed that the proposal should go to community consultation before any decision is made.
A reduction in front counter hours at Galashiels will also be included in the consultation.
A Lothian and Borders Police spokesman said: "The Force notes the decision of the Police Board, and we are now in the process of drawing up plans to engage with local communities in order to seek their views on the proposed changes to police public counter arrangements in."
Councillor Logan said: "I was very grateful for the support I got as the Scottish Borders Council member on the Board."
Lothian and Borders Police recently recommended the potential sale of police stations in Innerleithen, West Linton and Newcastleton in a bid to save money, as well as plans to close the police post in Earlston, following a cost-cutting review.
It has also proposed slashing the opening hours at police stations in Peebles and Galashiels, while the future of stations in Selkirk, Melrose and Lauder are among those that remain in doubt.
Councillor Logan also requested two extra community contact vehicles or mobile police stations for the area.
This was also agreed and Chief Superintendent Graham Sinclair the Divisional Commander of the Borders will now produce a business case at the next Board meeting in January.
