The future's bright at Rosetta

A LOCAL playgroup which had been threatened with closure has had its future secured thanks to an £8000 grant.
Rosetta Playgroup had just four weeks to enrol 20 children to keep it from closing back in January leading staff and members of the management committee to immediately launch a grassroots campaign aimed at securing the much-needed enrolment.
This done they then switched their attention to raising enough money to move from their rundown old home within Dean Park Scout Hut to to new premises alongside Halyrude Primary at Rosetta Road.
And this week they received £8,000 of Lottery funding from Awards for All. The group have also received backing totalling £2,000 from Peebles Common Good Fund.
Further small grant awards and local fundraising mean that the group now have full funding in place to undertake the works required to enable them to move into the council-owned premises for which a lease was agreed earlier this year.
Work at the new premises is now scheduled to start on Monday, November 21, which also coincides with the registration week for pre-school places commencing August 2012.
Refurbishment work is expected to conclude by mid-December allowing the group time to obtain the necessary certification to operate in the new building from Jan 2012.
The group recently appointed a new play manager, Gaye Brown who said of the move: "Everyone involved with Rosetta are delighted that we are finally able to make this happen. The improved facilities will open new doors for Rosetta Playgroup and allow us to expand the experiences we can offer the children. We are all really excited about what lies ahead."
An Open Week will now be held from Tuesday, November 22 until Friday, November 25, at which new parents are encouraged to head along, meet staff, and find out what the playgroup can offer their children.
Parents are invited to call to the Dean Park Scout Hut between 9.30am and 10.30am.
