PEEBLES' very own version of The Wombles want your old photographs and memories.
The Cuddy Action Group which over the years has 'plucked everything but a dead body' from the waterway is to hold an open evening in the Eastgate at 7.30pm on January 25.
Group convenor Marion Anderson, who recently took the reins from Ellie Breeze, and other members of the team will be unveiling some ambitious and exciting new projects as part of the new road map for the Cuddy.
Projects planned include an Ecoblitz in May where volunteers will be given the chance to work with experts to survey and record the wildlife and plant life which exists on and around the Cuddy.
This will give a benchmark for the ecological health of the area and will highlight where conservation is urgently required. It is also hoped that, at last, it will become known whether the Cuddy is home to water voles.
Another planned event is a pilot programme involving Priorsford Primary which will see the children regularly visiting the area as they work towards John Muir Awards - an environmental award that encourages people of all backgrounds to connect, enjoy and care for wild places.
The group also want old memories or photographs of the Cuddy, as they chart the human history of the area with the intention of producing a living memory bank of interviews, ahead of an exhibition in 2013.
Marion said: "The group's main aim has always been to improve, conserve and protect the Cuddy and its surroundings as a valuable resource for wildlife and people in Peebles.
"Over the years we've plucked eevrything but a dead body from the water and its banks.
"We really want to open up the Cuddy as a major resource for the education of children, that is why we are delighted by the interest already shown by Priorsford Primary. The team also wants to make the Cuddy more accessible and link the area into other pathways around the town.
"Our open evening will be a chance for folk to come forward and share their knowledge about the Cuddy.
"We also hope anyone who works with youth groups or children will come along to add their voice to the plans."

Report commentI have a fairly good photo in colour, showing the fine looking, characteristic building on Cuddyside which used to house the workplace of the firm Thomas Wallace and Sons. It saddened me to read that it had been knocked down. My interest was that my father followed his apprenticeship there in the early years of the 20th century.
I could send it by email if the team wishes, but perhaps other readers have the same, or better, views of the building.
