Sky TV Scam
Police in the Scottish Borders are warning of a Scam from people purporting to be from Sky Television.
A member of the public was recently contacted by a person falsely stating that they were from Sky Television. They told the member of the public that they were to receive a refund from the company.
The victim then received a device in the post with which they were to scan their bank card and enter their PIN number. This would give the fraudster the information required to withdraw funds from the victim's bank account.
A Police spokesperson said "Members of the public should never divulge their card PIN number to another person or enter it into a device other than when at a bank or at a reputable retail outlet. Fortunately, in this instance the victim was suspicious and contacted Police. We would urge members of the public to be very wary of unsolicited phone calls and mail and if in doubt they should contact their bank or local Police station for advice."
