Dog fouling causes a stink in Peebles and Walkerburn
AN OUTRAGED resident of Walkerburn is spearheading a campaign against the rising amount of dog fouling in the village and in Peebles.
Carol Holness, who is a cleaner for Crossburn Caravans in Peebles, decided to take matters into her own hands and set up a Facebook page to raise awareness of the problem in Walkerburn.
She soon made an additional page for Peebles after also receiving complaints about dog fouling the town.
And the pages have become popular among residents - who say the problem has worsened and has to be addressed immediately.
Carol told the Peeblesshire News: "It has always been a problem - and as there are a lot more people with dogs its an issue that's growing.
"It gets me very annoyed when its left where children play - playing fields, parks and paths en route to schools.
"I was just so angry after being out and seeing the doug fouling while walking my dog a couple of weeks ago that I thought to start this - as I know Facebook is good for flagging up issues and getting support on issues like this."
And almost two hundered locals have joined her in protesting against dog fouling.
She said: "What I would like to see is more people being caught for this - I know we have wardens in the Borders, although to be honest I have not seen them once.
"I also feel that it's not the dogs fault, and that people who don't clean up after their dogs shouldn't be allowed to have them."
She added: "I've said to people I've seen leaving their dog's mess 'Your dogs just done its buisness are you not going to pick it up, or do you want a bag?'"
Join Carol's campaign by searching 'Fed Up of Lazy Dog Owners in Walkerburn' or 'Fed Up of Lazy Dog Owners in Peebles' in your Facebook search engine or click on this link - http://www.facebook.com/FedUpOfLazyDogOwners?ref=ts
And if you see someone not picking up after their pooch get in touch with the Scottish Borders Council Dog Wardens on 0300 100 1800.
