TWEEDDALE MP David Mundell is urging constituents to take part in a planned wind farm survey.

Telephone surveys will shortly be carried out by Scottish Borders Council (SBC) in order to seek opinion on the public perception of wind farms.

The survey will gauge public opinion on a wide range of issues relating to wind turbines, with these findings being used in a review of the council's existing policy on wind farms.

It comes as part of SBC's Environment and Infrastructure department's preparations for a new Local Development Plan.

Part of its function is to lay down planning policies to give guidance on a range of future planning applications.

Mr Mundell and the council will be contacting about 400 households. Calls should take no longer than 10 minutes.

The MP, who has already publicly stated that "enough is enough" locally as far as wind farms go, says that one of the most frequently raised issues at surgeries was that of wind farms and wind turbines.

He said: "We already have part of the giant Clyde Wind farm within the area, as well as a number of other wind farm developments, not to mention others in the planning process.

"Anything which helps decision makers get accurate views of the public's opinion must be a good thing and I hope that constituents will do so if asked to take part in this survey."
