TRIBUTES were paid to one of Peeblesshire's longest-serving Justices of the Peace.

Fiona Ballantyne conducted her final court on Thursday November 22 at Rosetta Road in Peebles.

Prior to business starting, local solicitor Morris Anderson said: "You have always been efficient, clear and courteous with myself and my legal colleagues, which is very much appreciated.

"Your decisions have never been questioned by us - by a few of our clients, perhaps, but never by us."

Ms Ballantyne conducted her first court back in 1989 - witnessing many changes over the preceding two decades.

Mr Anderson added: "You are retiring at a time when our court is yet again under threat, something you will have seen before, and I hope, even in your retirement, that will support our fight against this latest closure attempt."

Court clerk Margaret Dundas also paid tribute to the retiring JP.

She said: "You have always been great to work with and you have helped us out many times at extremely short notice."

Ms Ballantyne was presented with a bouquet of flowers.
