TRIBUTES have been paid to one of Peebles most popular characters following his death last week.

Retired school teacher Daniel T Ward was the founding member of Peebles Concert Band which played at the Queens's Diamond Jubilee "Big Lunch" in the Burgh Hall.

He also played at Peebles Rugby Club's Annual 7s Supporters' Lunch for many years and his most recent engagement was at the Peebles Pensioners Christmas Lunch in the Green Tree.

The former St. Joseph's Primary School and then Peebles Burgh High School pupil was also involved with the Beltane Festival and Borders Big Band and coached the Mini Section at the rugby club.

John Swanson, Membership Secretary at Peebles Rugby Club, said: "He (Mr Ward) will be sadly missed."
