Snow White and the Four Dwarfs at St Ronan's
St Ronan's care home staff performed a Snow White and the Four Dwarfs panto for the residents last month.
Scripts were given out to staff members a month before the pantomime took place and rehearsals although few and far between began. There were also costumes to make, scenery and props to do and oh the best bit… the finale dance to practice. Now let the fun begin……
Due to unforseen circumstances we had to draft in some additional help from other staff members who made an amazing job standing in. Thank you Mhairi and Susan for that!
The panto began with the wicked step-mother looking in to the mirror asking "mirror, mirror on the wall". There were cackles from the wicked step-mother and booing from the audience! Snow white then came in to "Glentress Forest" looking all lost and finds a beautiful "wendy" house with some "forsyths pies and irn bru" in it. She then falls asleep and in come the four dwarfs. We only had four dwarfs available as Doc Duncan was treating sneezy at the health centre as sneezy was allergic to Fluffy our home cat. Bashful was simply to shy to come along on the day. The music then began with "high ho" etc where they find snow white sleeping in their bed! Eventually it gets to the part of the story where the witch decides to poison Snow White as she has been told she is "not the most beautiful in the land". Snow White dies and the dwarfs are destraught and begin lowering snow white in to a red coffin using the aid of the hoist! (This was due to all the dwarfs having their mandatory moving and handling training!)
Snow white eventually comes back to life again after the prince enters and uses the heimlich technique to revive her!
The queen is absolutely furious but the dwarfs cart her off the stage and a wedding takes place. The wedding ends and the party really begins in earnest to the music from "Gangham style". There was audience participation at this point where a couple of our service-users had joined us in the dress rehearsal to practice the moves for this! THE END.
The cast of this years production were as follows: Brenda Spriggs: Wicked step-mother, Snow white: Donna Leslie, Prince: Sarah Kibble, Mirror: Fiona Dechan, Narrator: Evelyn Anderson and the Dwarfs: Lizzie Hardie, Mhairi Inglis, Kirstin Russell and Susan Oliver.
Other events that have taken place this Christmas have included a trip up to Peebles via Cardrona to see the Christmas lights before returning back to Innerleithen to see ours. We have also had the brownies up to sing and some Innerleithen Opera singers too. We also held a "Strictly Come Dancing" theme night where the staff and some service-users dressed up in their "posh" frocks and danced along to the final on the TV. There was a delicious buffet to accompany this along with some alcoholic beverages.
Everyone is very much looking forward to an appearance from the St Ronans Silver band over the festive season too.
Heartfelt thanks to all that have contributed so far in helping to make our Christmas experience so enjoyable and special for everyone. Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year to all.
