The West Linton area is clearly home to a huge wealth of musical talent, based on the evidence of the annual Young Musicians’ Festival Concert that took place in Carlops.

The audience present in Carlops Centre were treated to a wonderful series of performances by young people playing a huge variety of instruments, from piano to saxophone, via guitar, drums, violin, flute, xylophone and all stops in between.

The youngest performer was eight and the oldest 17, every one of them entirely happy to step up in front of a big audience and do their thing flawlessly with hardly a hint of nerves.

Eighteen musicians took part in the event, which was brought to a rousing conclusion by a performance of Scott Joplin’s ‘The Entertainer’ by a small orchestra, arranged and conducted by Murray Campbell, that had come together specially for the occasion.

The event has taken place each year for the last five years and has gone from strength to strength, with many new performers joining in the fun and many more who have taken part in previous concerts showing just how much their musical abilities have developed over the years.

The organisers, West Linton Music Society, are already making plans for next year and hope to keep the momentum going by putting on other musical events for and involving young people in the area over the course of the year. So, if you have a musical talent and would like to get some great experience of performing in a warm and friendly environment, the Music Society would love to hear from you! www.westlinton.org.uk/music/music-society
