POLICE have issued a warning to motorcyclists following two accidents in three days.

In the first incident a motorcycle was involved in a collision with a Jaguar car on the A68 at Soutra. The 53-year-old motorcycle rider was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary where he was treated for serious injuries.

Then on the A701 near Peebles a motorcyclist collided with a Ford Fiesta.

The 42-year-old rider was conveyed to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary where he was treated for broken bones.

Inspector Richard Latto, Divisional Road Policing Unit in Dalkeith, said: “Both riders were fortunate not to receive life-threatening injuries as a result of these collisions. The recent warm weather has resulted in a noticeable increase in the number of motorbikes using local routes across the both the Scottish Borders and East Lothian.

“In an effort to continue to reduce the number casualties in this vulnerable road user group, local Road Policing officers would prioritise their time targeting identified motorcycle routes. Although education and engagement continues to be an important part in our quest to reduce casualty numbers, proactive enforcement and the deployment of unmarked police vehicles would continue to be used as a key tactic to ensure both car users and motorcyclists both enjoy visiting these locations and arrive home to their loved ones safely.”
