An average of three to four parcels are delivered each week by Peeblesshire Foodbank to households in difficult circumstances.

Recently Gillian Hughes, the Foodbank Manager, has taken up a full-time job, and consequently stepped down but remains on the Board of Trustees.

Trustee Jim Benton-Evans said: “Without Gillian’s commitment and extraordinary hard work, Peeblesshire Foodbank would never have got off the ground and hundreds of people in our community would have gone hungry.

“We owe her a huge debt of gratitude and thanks and are beginning the process of looking for a replacement.” It is currently voluntary unpaid work with flexible hours estimated as somewhere between five and 10 per week.

The main responsibilities include: overseeing delivery of food parcels to clients; managing the food stock; supervising and supporting volunteers; liaising regularly with the Board and the Trussell Trust nationally; and supporting the Foodbank’s public relations and media profile.

The group had another successful collection at Peebles Tesco at the beginning of July, and wishes to thank everyone who helped or donated food.

The organisation is also seeking to expand the role and number of volunteers to have a number of small teams taking on food parcel delivery to clients, to sort and label the food currently coming in to Cavalry Park.

if there is anyone who feels that they might be able to take on this any of the roles, please will they get in touch with Jim Benton-Evans on 07702 842727 or jimbentonevans@gmail.com for an informal conversation about what the role entails.

Please keep a look out for details of our fundraiser on the evening of September 20 at the Macfarlane Hall - and save the date.
