Investigative journalist Fiona Walker is a special guest at the annual Wayside Market, for Lyne and Manor Church.

It takes place on Saturday, August 30 at Kirkton House.

This is a step back into history as many years ago the market was held at Kirkton House when it was the Manse of Manor.

Since the last minister left, the Old Manse has been given a new lease of life with a lovely garden enhancing the views of Cademuir Hill.

At 2pm the Wayside Market will be opened by Fiona of BBC Scotland.

She is an award-winning journalist and investigative reporter who has brought us news on the BBC from around the world and around Scotland. Fiona moved into making investigative documentaries including Panorama and BBC Scotland Investigates where she delves into issues that matter and holds politicians, and others in charge of public spending, to account.

She grew up in Manor Valley, initially attending Manor School and went on to study law at Newcastle University before she joined the BBC.

Her TV and radio reporting career started with a stint in Shetland but has taken her to film stories from the school massacre in Beslan to famine in Niger to an earthquake in Pakistan.

Fiona's Panorama documentaries “The Great NHS Robbery” and “Tainted Love: Secrets of the Dating Game” were screened earlier this year and last summer.

She is married and has two children. She comes back to Manor Valley frequently, walking or running over Cademuir from Peebles.

A Wayside Market is a very traditional community event with stalls offering the famed baking by the ladies of Manor and fresh produce and plants from the Manor gardens as well as bric-a-brac, books, and toys. A new stall this year offers a variety of pictures and picture frames, all at bargain prices.

Hundreds of scones have been baked, together with pots of new made jam for the cream teas - always the great attraction. There are games and competitions, too which will make a good day out for the family and everyone has a chance to buy a duck for the big race of the day! There are plenty of activities for children and this year there will be pony rides.

Organisers hope for a sunny day, so visitors can enjoy the fine surroundings but, just in case, most of the attractions will be under cover. The venue is right beside Manor Church.
