TWEEDDALE MP David Mundell took a soaking at the weekend.

The Better Together campaigner joins the likes of Alastair Darling, Alex Salmond and former US president George W Bush, by taking part in the ice bucket challenge.

Mr Mundell was doused with a large bucket of cold water and ice by 2014 Dumfries Guid Neighbour Alison Hall, after he was nominated for the challenge by her husband, David.

As part of the challenge, Mr Mundell made a donation to the Motor Neuron Disease Society in support of a campaign by Gordon Aikman, a young political activist who has contracted a fatal form of the disease.

David said: “I wouldn’t want to do it every day but it wasn’t as bad as I thought.

“I had enjoyed seeing it done to others, so I could hardly say no!

“And it was for a good cause. Gordon’s is a tragic but inspirational story and people can find out more about it and donate at gordonsfightingback.com” Amongst Mr Mundell’s own nominations was Borders MSP John Lamont.
