MORE Borderers than ever are now registered with an NHS dentist.

But the region is still behind national averages.

Over the past four years the number of adults in the Scottish Borders who have an NHS dentist has soared from just 54.6 per cent in 2010 to 73 per cent by September, 2014.

During the same period the number of children who are registered at an NHS practice has gone up from 80.2 per cent to 88.1 per cent. But the levels are still below the Scotland-wide averages of 92.4 per cent for children and 85.4 per cent for children.

September’s figures show that 19,131 children in the Borders have a NHS dentist, while the adult figure stands at 67,259.
