A COMMUNITY councillor from Peebles has been unveiled as the Liberal Democrat candidate to challenge sitting Conservative MP David Mundell for the Westminster constituency of Dumfriesshire, Clydesdale and Tweeddale.

Amanda Kubie was elected to Peebles Community Council in 2009 and, according to the party, has played “a very active role within her local community”. She has also been a long time member of the Scottish Women’s Rural Institute, serving on local and national committees.

She recognises that residents in rural communities often do not have access to services in the same way as those in urban areas and aims to campaign for improvements in this regard.

And, if elected, Amanda will work to the benefit of her constituents, the people of Scotland and of the UK, working to ensure that Britain is a fair and equitable society.

She was a former member and then chairperson of Priorsford Primary School Parent Teachers Association, then becoming a member of Peebles High School Board when her youngest child attended the school - a record, her party claims, shows her commitment to her community and to improving the lives of the people within it.

Ms Kubie said: “I want people to have the opportunity to vote for a candidate who lives in the constituency and who thinks positively about the future. I want to promote liberal values of personal freedom and fairness within a caring society.”
