TWEEDDALE MP David Mundell was one of the many visitors to an exhibition put on by pupils from Eddleston Primary School at the Royal Highland Show.

The exhibition created by all the pupils at the school shows how agricultural communities around Eddleston were affected by the First World War and how farming has changed over the last 100 years in the area.

Mr Mundell said: “It was fantastic to be shown round the exhibition by some of the very enthusiastic pupils who helped create it. I really enjoyed seeing it and hearing how they went about the project. I hope other local visitors to the Show got the chance to see it too.

“World War One brought many changes to local area with many young men leaving the land and going off to fight. Women took on some of these roles and new ways had also to found to feed people locally.

“The exhibition is both informative and moving with personal stories and it was clear throughout that the Eddleston pupils had really done their research. It was particularly interesting to see how things have changed over the last 100 years as the exhibition also brings up to date what is happening on local farms.” Mr Mundell is pictured with Eddleston pupils at the exhibition.
