THE buyer of the old school in West Linton remains a mystery.

Scottish Borders Council have been involved in negotiations for several months over the sale of their property in Deanfoot Road.

But they are still unwilling to make public the name of the probable buyer.

Tweeddale West councillor Keith Cockburn told members of West Linton Community Council on Monday: “It’s still in confidence - they are dealing with the finalities of the sale and there’s not much further to go now.” There have been rumours that the Co-op would move from its present location in Main Street to the old school site.

Members of the community council are concerned that the purchaser’s name is not being revealed because it would not be welcomed by the village.

Eric Small, the community council chairman, said: “People are wondering what’s going and why it’s taking so long to close the deal.” And the community council secretary Graham Tulloch said: “Maybe it’s because it’s going to be a nightclub or something.”
