JODIE Pyman was the sole Peebles swimmer taking part in the East District Challenge Meet which was held at Bathgate earlier this month.

She swam 400m Individual Medley and 100m Breaststroke. It was her first time doing this length of IM and she performed extremely well, finishing in 2nd place.

In the Breaststroke event she finished just outside her best time.

Peebles ASC members Thomas Nicoll and Jodie Pyman, both pupils at Kingsland Primary School, qualified to swim in the Scottish Schools Championships, which were held at East Kilbride on March 7. Kingsland has an excellent record in these championships, with many finalists over the years, and indeed several champions.

The most recent winner was Lynn Duncan in the Butterfly in 2000 and, prior to that, Chris Shaw in the Freestyle in 1991 and 1992, also the boys’ relay team those same two years.

Thomas kept up the Kingsland tradition, with an excellent win in the Freestyle. He qualified for the final in 2nd place and then went one better, winning the Gold medal in a time only 2/100 of a second ahead of the 2nd place swimmer.

Jodie swam in the Butterfly and she finished in 10th place, just outside her best time. Both swimmers did well to get through to these championships in the first place.
