A SCOTS cabbie obsessed with Eurovision, who has racked up more than 35,000 miles and listened to more than 650 songs, has given his tip for this year's winner.

Kevin Sherwin has travelled all across Europe -- including Dublin, Moscow and Helsinki -- just to witness the annual event.

The taxi driver, from Aberdeen, has sat through more than 650 performances since first attending in 1994 and has even met Lys Assia -- the winner of the first contest in 1956.

And the 57-year-old has tipped Alexander Rybak -- who previously won the competition in Moscow in 2009 -- to win a fourth title for Norway.

Over the years, Kevin has seen gorillas, turkeys and pirates used as part of the many quirky performances.

Kevin says his love of Eurovision started out as a hobby but it quickly became "an obsession.

He said: "I've always loved it even in the old black and white days.

"I've always been interested in music. My father used to tell me that I always used to dance in my pram.

"Back then we never had YouTube. So when it first started it had many songs and I just started to love it.

"Every year it got to be more of an obsession and this year will be my 20th contest.

"I think Norway will win again but Israel, Cyprus and Estonia are the favourites."

The taxi driver often plays some of his favourite Eurovision hits in his cab and chats to customers about his passion for the contest.

When Kevin first went to see the contest live it was still a black tie event but has joked

Kevin added: "I've been a taxi driver for 12 years.

"And people who come into my taxi always say 'I've never met anybody who has went to the Eurovision song contest.'

"It all started in 1994 at the Point Depot in Dublin. In those days it was still black tie so I had to hire a dinner suit and the women an evening dress.

"Today, it's not uncommon to for the men to turn up in an evening dress. How times have changed."

Since 2001 he has attended all but one -- Baku in 2012 due to lack of funding -- of the contests.

Superfan Kevin has been committed to flying the flag for the UK but recently he has been speaking up for another country.

For the past eight years, he has acted as the Romanian entry's English language correspondent.

Kevin added: "I've been to a range of places including Istanbul (a city in Turkey), Moscow (capital of Russia) and Helsinki (capital of Finland).

"I've visited Ireland a few times now but I'd say my favourite city I've been to is the capital of Ukraine - Kiev.

"It's so cheap, you can have two meals in a restaurant for £5."

As well as the last few Romanian contestants, the Eurovision superfan has snapped selfies with the likes of Terry Wogan, Graham Norton and Jedward.

He added: "I've met Graham Norton, he is such a nice guy and his very approachable.

"I asked him for a photo and he was happy to do it.

"Jedward are the nicest people I've ever met. They are so lovely, they stand with you forever. Yes, they are off their heads but they are really nice people.

"They are so clean cut, they don't smoke, drink or do drugs."

For this year's competition, English singer-songwriter SuRie will be representing the UK.

Kevin believes that the former backing singer for Belgium will easily avoid getting the dreaded nul points.

He added: "I think she will do very well and I think she will definitely be in the top ten. She looks like a young Anne Lennox."

Kevin's favourite Eurovision winners:

Bobbysocks - La Det Swinge (Norway, 1985)

Abba - Waterloo (Sweden, 1974)

Herreys - Diggi-Loo Diggi-Ley (Sweden, 1984)

Paul Harrington and Charlie McGettigan - Rock 'n' Roll Kids (Ireland, 1994)

His least favourite winners.

Jamala - 1944 (Ukraine, 2016)

Salvador Sobral - Amar Pelos Dois (Portugal, 2017)
