RESIDENTS in Walkerburn are being urged to help in the further development of an exciting initiative for communities to help themselves in an emergency.

A meeting is taking place at the village hall on Monday at 6.30pm as organisers seek to drum up support for the Resilient Communities programme devised by Scottish Borders Council. Iain Weir, the local Resilient Communities co-ordinator, said: “We know that emergencies happen and these can be severe weather, floods, fires, or major incidents involving transport etc. Preparing the community and your family for these types of events will make it easier to recover following the impact of an emergency.” There will be the opportunity to sign up as a volunteer at Monday’s meeting, discussions will take place on how to increase the number of volunteers and a list will be compiled of those who are most at risk in emergency situations.
