CANCER research fundraisers are set to put their best foot forwards yet again.

Tens of thousands of pounds have been raised by the annual hike from Peebles to Walkerburn.

And organisers, the Walkerburn and Innerleithen branch of Cancer Research UK, hope 2014 will be up there with the biggest and best yet.

Christine Craig, secretary of the branch, told the Peeblesshire News: “Cancer Research UK are doing a tremendous work in researching this illness and have made giant strides in both treatment and cure in some aspects of cancer.

“But there is still a long way to go. This can only be achieved by the support they receive from the public.” Every April around 100 fundraisers take part in the sponsored walk from Kingsmeadows Car Park to Walkerburn Rugby Club - a distance of almost exactly 10 miles.

And yet again there will be hot food and other refreshments waiting for them in the Cabertson clubrooms.

Christine added: “This is a great, fun day with medals for everyone who completes the walk.

“I would love to see some new faces joining us this year - they will be made very welcome.” The Walkerburn and Innerleithen Cancer Research Walk starts on Sunday, May 18 at 10am.

Entry forms, which should be presented at the start, are available from either Christine (01896 830278) or Rita Bean (01896 830984).
