WEST Linton luminaries’ names may be written in stone.
The village’s community council debated honouring worthy Lintonians by using their names for streets in the new Springfield development.
The site plan shows potential for at least nine separate streets, a crescent and closes, members discussed either using the name of one person or the possibility of a mixture of different names.
names under consideration include Betty Aikman, who left a legacy to the village in the form of an educational trust fund for teenagers going into further education.
Former nurse Margaret Kerr, whose bequest helped launch the fundraising campaign for the region’s first palliative care unit at Borders General Hospital, could also be recognised.
“I think these people’s names should live on in permanent memory,” said community councillor Eric Small.
Councillor Willie Archibald, who represents the area on Scottish Borders Council, added: “At least some good will come out of the Springfield development.”
