IT’S just nine weeks to Christmas and already towns and villages in the Borders are making plans.

In West Linton they are well-prepared for the big switch-on of their Christmas lights on November 27.

“We are sticking with our traditional switch-on night - the last Thursday in November - and we hope this one will be better than ever,” said organiser Calum Greenhow, who runs the village Post Office. All the shops in West Linton will open from 6pm on the night before the lights are switched on at 7pm “We’re expecting a great night and hope many people will support the occasion,” said Mr Greenhow.

“Work on putting up the lights will begin on November 15 and the idea is to try to cover as much of Main Street as we can.

“This will be a nice time for people to come to the village - many of the shops are going to have special offers.” More volunteers are needed to help with the erection of the lights and if you want to help contact Mr Greenhow at the post office on 01968 660229.
