STAFF at the Peebles branch of Sainsbury’s went well above and beyond expectations of good service when they managed to track down some British Legion chocolate bars for West Linton Primary School.

Primary 7 had been discussing the appropriateness of the supermarket using the World War One truce as a means of advertising and had written letters to the managing director of Sainsbury’s offering their opinions. They are using the truce in 1914 as the theme of their Christmas service and wanted the limited edition chocolate bars as props.

On discovering the chocolate bars had sold out and no more were available, Jenna from Sainsbury’s set about locating a store that still had some supplies.

Kerem, who also works at Sainsbury’s, finished his shift and in his own time and drove to Kelso - a 70 miles round-trip away - to collect the chocolate bars and delivered them to Peebles.

Primary 7 would like to thank the staff at Sainsbury’s for this outstanding service and for truly entering into the Christmas spirit of giving, sharing and thinking of others at this time of year.

Meanwhile, Katie Bell, from West Linton, won a colouring competition run by Springfield Construction who are building houses in the area.

Katie’s success was beneficial to both her and the school as she won £50 to spend in Waterstones bookshop and £50 to school funds. Depute Head Teacher Martin Elliott was very happy to receive the cheque on behalf of West Linton Primary.
