GUIDE dog Pedro accompanied by trainee Vinny took pride of place in a fundraising event - and there was plenty to get their tails wagging.

The function in West Linton raised £600 and the money will be used to buy a comfy bed for Pedro and his pals.

Event organisers Heather McLennan and Lucy MacLennan look after Pedro, a golden labrador, while his owner goes on holiday.

The Guide Dog Association provide all guide dog owners with a plastic bed - but Heather and Lucy wanted to go further by raising the funds to allow owners to provide their guide dog with a super comfy lifetime mattress.

“Guide Dogs have a working life of around six to nine years, sometimes longer, and they deserve the most supportive beds available during their working life, and beyond,” said Lucy.

“Pedro is a lovely dog and we fund-raised to give him a Tuffies Dog Bed which he absolutely loves.” West Linton Golf Club was the setting for a lunch, raffle and homebaking sale. There was a silent auction of an original Heather McLennan painting of a Highland Cow.

The special guests at the event were nine-year-old Pedro, a working guide dog owned by Ann Findley, and Vinny, a nine-month-old black labrador in training.

“We were well supported by many friends and golfers and would like to give our thanks to everyone who joined us,” said Lucy.

“Special thanks to Mark and Kay and Morag and all the catering staff at West Linton Golf Club, and Tricia Brown.

“We are delighted to announce that £600 was raised on the day, and with the help of Tuffies this will go towards purchasing more comfy lifetime beds for working guide dogs in Lothian and Borders.” Tuffies Dog Beds are manufactured in Aberdeenshire with dog comfort at the forefront.

“The beds are strong and sturdy and have a thick futon mattress with a waterproof cover which gives perfect comfort, warmth and support,” said Lucy. “For the owner it is one of the most easy-to-clean and hygienic of all dog beds. With the help of Tuffies, our aim is to provide as many guide dogs as possible with a comfy lifetime bed.” If you would like to donate or find out more, please visit: http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/PedsBeds.
