Sir, I would like to comment on the article in the Peeblesshire News (January 3) regarding the axing of traffic wardens.
It states in this article that the region’s three traffic wardens issued 1102 parking fines between them in 12 months.
I do not consider myself to be a mathematical genius but a simple sum of 1102 divided by three traffic wardens makes this 367.33 parking fines each per year, divide by 52 weeks equals 7.06 parking fines each per week.
I alone, if I was a traffic warden, could issue this amount of parking fines in one hour in Innerleithen alone. So, as I see it, the management who control the wardens are not doing their job correctly.
If traffic wardens were axed no difference would be noticed in Innerleithen as we rarely see one and, after reading these figures, I understand why.
Maybe the wardens should be retained but put under new management? I am, etc.
Frank Leonard High Street Innerleithen
