Sir, I have lived in West Linton for approximately 25 years and was amazed to hear the Borders Council announce they were intending to stop the curbside pick up of garden refuge from March 2014.

I work in Ayrshire part of the time and rent accommodation there while I am away from home.

I have included the new refuge collection instructions above that I received from the Ayrshire council, they also have to abide by the new Scottish legislation as well, but rather than take away the service they are improving it.

Your garden rubbish goes into the brown bin as normal along with your food waste, the food waste has to be in biodegradable and compostable bags (supplied by the council) which you use instead of normal bin liners in your kitchen bin. The brown bin is picked up once per week.

I am sure that the Borders Council can revisit the problem of garden waste and come up with a working compromise as other councils are doing.

I think the majority of householders would have no probems paying for the biodegragable bags, you can buy them at most supermarkets to save costs if this is going to be a stumbling block.

I am, etc.
