Sir, Through your columns I would like to congratulate your newspaper on the excellent article which had the headline “Council tells Holyrood - Hands off our wind farm decisions!” Councillor Cockburn made a powerful case and it was good to see that his slightly amended motion was unanimously accepted by the SNP/LibDem/Independent coalition.

It does seem that there is a realisation that the renewable lobby is fast finding it difficult to justify the expensive wind farm option.

Councillor Cockburn was correct in drawing attention to the sheer scale of developments in the Borders and more particularly in Tweeddale. He also reminded us that the Prime Minister has given a commitment to stop onshore wind farm developments in England if there is a Conservative Government after the 2015 general election. He also made a good point when he said that all wind farm applications should be the sole responsibility of local authorities.

This view was articulated by David Mundell MP in a recent edition of the Peeblesshire News. The bottom line is that the SNP does not have the support of the vast majority of the Borders population when over-ruling our Planning committee’s decisions.

The SNP government will have to accept what we all know - “Big Brother does not necessarily know best.” I am, etc.
