Sir, Our new, improved First Bus service has further drawbacks which only come to light as time goes on. The temporary bus station in Galashiels has proved to be surprisingly convenient given good weather conditions.

Catching the bus back to Peebles before the ‘improvements’, the driver had been instructed, in writing, to let the passengers board the bus prior to the change over of drivers. However, with our new improved service this no longer applies and as some of us found out, in torrential rain, the drivers come first and the passenger a poor second.

The last time I used this service the queue, containing pensioners and a pregnant woman, had moved out of the small shelter and forward to board the bus in very heavy rain. We were all kept standing on the pavement and told we couldn’t get on while the drivers had a chat and completed their paperwork in their own time. No apology. No explanation, I am, etc.
