Sir, My family are here in the Scottish Borders for the Common Ridings and we have already been to Hawick and Selkirk. It has brought back such wonderful memories for me.

When I was young a group of us used to ride at Selkirk and nearly all the Borders Common Ridings for years.

I was horrified when I opened the Peeblesshire News and saw the picture of the Cornet-Elect and his Lass sitting among the Cubs at Cardrona. Why? Because they were wearing silly lengths of red and white ribbon.

Where was the Peebles rosette? Or is this a new trend? It looked like a ribbon a little girl would put in her hair. It really saddened me.

When we were young and rode at other Common Ridings we were proud to wear the Peebles colours in the form of a rosette with all our ribbons on it. Why change now?

Had they forgotten their rosettes or is the way of things to come?

I am, etc.
