Sir, These days when we hear, all too often, reports of poor treatment of elderly people in nursing homes and the like, I feel it only proper to comment publicly on the superb standard of care at St. Ronan’s House, here in Innerleithen.

My dear Mother-in Law passed away, late on Wednesday of last week, after a long illness and long term care at St Ronan’s. Throughout her long stay, till literately the very end, she has been tended to with outstanding dedication by a staff that was unfailingly caring and cheerful: my Wife and I never, even for one second, had concern or fear for the way in which our Mum was being looked after.

In a day and age when avarice seems to be the hallmark of success and people in some sections of society are paid obscene sums for, effectively, doing very little, staff in our care homes carry out a difficult and often distasteful job, for very little return, but without complaint.

My wife and I have seen this exemplified over the last ten or so years and I cannot begin to find the words that would adequately express our gratitude to the staff at St. Ronan’s or to convey to you the privilege it is to know them.

I am, etc.
